What is Salt Therapy?

Salt therapy or (Halotherapy) is a pain-free, drug-free alternative therapy that has been clinically proven to help relieve respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis and dermatological problems such as eczema, psoriasis and allergies. It is a therapy that has been used for over 150 years and is based on the Salt Mines throughout Europe.  The therapeutic nature of these mines was discovered many years ago when miners reported significant improvement in respiratory conditions after having spent hours below in salt mines.

HOW DOES SALT THERAPY WORK

Essentially the idea behind salt therapy is that it allows negatively ionized salt particles to enter the respiratory system and to reach all the way into the aveoli.  From here studies suggest that the saline diffused air particles will be able to reduce inflammation which can lead to asthma attacks, and absorb substances from the mucosal lining which can otherwise make breathing more difficult. Furthermore, saline substances are antibacterial, and so this can have other positive effects on the health of clients by helping prevent bacteria and viruses from causing problems.

Salt therapy works by clearing the airways of mucus and reducing inflammation triggered by allergies to dust, pollen or pollution

HOW IS SALT THERAPY PROVIDED

Salt therapy is provided in a Salt Room that is specially designed to mimic a cave like environment, with walls covered in salt and a layer of salt on the floor, this helps to keep the room sterile and aids in the microclimate of the room.

Throughout the therapy, salt aerosol is constantly scattered into the air for the clients to breathe in.
The salt aerosol consists of tiny and dry salt particles, in sizes between 1-5 microns, which are ground
in a start of the art Breeze Tronic Pro Halogenerator which is the only device to be considered suitable for inclusion into the UKs National Health service (equivalent of Medicare).  As the salt is inhaled while sitting in the room, it travels through the sinuses and respiratory tract absorbing moisture, cleansing, clearing mucus and killing bacteria.

CHILDREN

Australia has one of the highest incidences of asthma in the world and asthma remains the most common disease in childhood. One in four Australian children will have at least one episode of asthma per year.

Children are more prone to suffer from respiratory conditions, due to a number of factors such as, children take more breaths than adults do which means they are taking in more polluted air and their defence mechanisim of their respiratory system is less developed to cope with the pollutants.  Clinical trials have shown that children react very quickly, effectively and intensively to natural healing methods. We have a beautiful separate therapy room designed to cater to the needs of children.  We provide a tv they can watch and toys to keep them busy for their hour long session.  Feel free to bring in their favourite movie, book or game if you feel it would help in keeping them busy during their treatment.

DEPRESSION, STRESS AND ANXIETY

Although Salt Rooms were specifically designed for people with respiratory & skin ailments, it is also proving to be beneficial treatment for those suffering with depression, stress and anxiety related disorders.  The negative charge and high surface energy of the salt particles empowers them to penetrate internal airways more deeply, bonding with positive ions and calming and relaxing internal muscles as the nervous system rebalances. The same action is simultaneously performed externally as charged particles coat the skin, reducing chronic hypersensitivity caused by environmental stresses and encouraging cellular regeneration.

Not only will your skin and lungs benefit from the many positive effects of Salt Therapy but your mood will feel the benefits of negative ions balancing your body’s energy.
